Legal Blue Meth In Honor of Breaking Bad

In honor of the series finale of Breaking Bad, my husband wanted to make blue meth rock candy. It turned out delicious and was fun to eat while watching the finale.
The recipe we used was from the LA times:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup water
3/4 cup light corn syrup
2 cups granulated sugar
2 tsp raspberry flavoring extract
1 drop blue gel food coloring
Instructions:
1. Line a baking sheet with foil, then spray the foil with nonstick spray
2. In a medium sauce pan, combine the sugar, water and corn syrup and turn the stove on to medium high heat. Stir the mixture until the sugar dissolves. Bring the mixture to a boil and stop stirring. Wet a brush and use it to brush down the sides of the pan. Insert a candy thermometer.
3. Cook the mixture until the temperature reaches 285 to 290 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the pan from the heat and remove the candy thermometer. Let the mixture stand until all of the bubbles have stopped forming at the top of the surface.
4. Add in your flavoring and food coloring and stir.
5. Pour the mixture onto the baking sheet and lift the pan to one side, then the other to even out the mixture. It does not have to be perfectly even and it's OK to have holes in the candy. Let the candy cool to room temperature.
6. Once the candy has cooled, use the back of a spoon or another tool to break up the candy. Once the candy is broken up, it's ready to eat or place in little plastic baggies.

I highly recommend this candy. It is delicious and we can't wait to make it again in different flavors.

Blue and White

Blue embroidery tank top, white shorts, brown sandals.

Now I know why bloggers comment on why they have nothing to say! It's sometimes hard to come up with to talk about.

Yellow Shorts

Royal blue shirt, yellow shorts, blue converse shoes

Multi-color sleeveless shirt, yellow short, blue converse shoes

Black tanktop, yellow shirt, zebra print shoes, zebra print necklace

I kept seeing bloggers wearing shorts with various patterns and colors and I realized that all my shorts were jeans, black or white. So, I went in search of some yellow shorts. I went on a hunt for them and many stores didn't carry them. Then I went to New York and Company where they actually had 3 different styles of yellow shorts. When I tried these on, I knew I had to have them. They were the correct shade of yellow and a good fit that can be dressed up or down. Some of the others I tried on were lighter yellow or neon yellow and jeans type fabric. I'm still kicking myself for not getting these shorts in another color!

Pink and Black

Black cardigan, pink tank top, pink flip flops, jean shorts, black purse.

This picture is very old, but I love the pop of color the pink gives and how the tank and flip flops match. Fun for running errands.

Wall Decoration

I saw a pin on pinterest where they used ceiling rosettes painted yellow as decoration on a white wall. We have a large mostly empty wall in our living room and I felt like ceiling medallions would be a way to add some decor to the wall. They are large, so they took up the wall well.

We looked at Home Depot and Lowe's to see their selction. Lowe's had a slightly larger selection, but neither one had a plethora of choices. There was a small selection of different sizes. The medium sized ones were $20-25

For the centers there was a solid, circular one shown below. Other options were not satisfactory as they were picture frames, clocks, or had holes in the centers. The center I selected cost $8. For the center of the middle two medallions we used wooden circles with wooden flowers attached. These ended up being slightly more work in trying to attach them to the medallions, but I didn't want all three centers to be the same and there were not really other options.

The larger ceiling medallions are closer to $50. I was very surprised by the price difference. We went to try and see what was available at Hobby Lobby and found a couple of crests that were similar to what we were looking for and cost much less.

To match the larger medallion we spray painted the white ceiling medallions with bronze spray paint. Then for the accents we used copper acrylic paint .
