So after yoga I was driving home and found out that a hummer drove off the road and smashed a power pole in half. By the time I passed by there were ambulances, firetrucks and police all standing around waiting. So either no one was hurt or the hurt had already been attended too and we were just waiting for the power people to get here. However, it meant that I came home to a dark house. So what do you do when the power goes out? Go shopping!
First I went and got my nails done at the place right by my house. Then I went to Arby's for lunch. I NEVER go to Arby's, but it was convenient and I had just seen an article in Food Magazine talking about the french fries of different places and Arby's was one of them. So I had a value roast beef, value fry and a berry milkshake. Then I went to JoAnns where I bought some tension rods and some fabric to make "curtains" for our bedroom. Our bedroom has two entryways to our bathroom but they have no doors. So when one of us is getting ready in the morning it shines into the bedroom. It's worse when I'm getting ready cause my lights face the head of the bed. More on the curtains later. I had just seen a tutorial on how to sew them so I figured I'd be good to just wing it.
After JoAnns I went to DSW. I'd received an email from them today showing off some sandals and I fell in love with a pair from Dr. Sholls so I decided I'd better go and try them on. Seeing all the fashion bloggers wear brown sandals has made me really want a pair. Well this pair from Dr. Scholls is amazing! With gel inserts they are so comfy. They also are pretty stylish and exactly what I was looking for. While there I also saw a bunch of boat shoes, loafers and tennis shoes. It made me realize that I have no shoes like that in my closet. All my shoes are either ballet flats, flip flops, ballet flats, heels, ballet flats, or running shoes. So I left with a pair of blue (obviously) converse in addition to my brown sandals.
Then I ran next door to Marshalls. This was the first time I'd been to that Marshalls and while it is so similar to Ross, it's so much better. I was going to say it reminded me some of Home Goods, but then I realized that our Home Goods here is a TJ Maxx/Home Goods store and they are owned by the same company as Marshalls. So yes, the remind me a lot of them...cause they are the same! However I'd say Marshalls is more trendy. I found a heart printed chambray shirt (that I knew would just be too trendy for me, but almost tried it on). Think of those white polka dot on denim chambray shirts, but rather than circles they were little hearts. However I did walk out with two pairs of identical shorts one in blue the other in teal. The pattern of the shorts isn't chevron and isn't striped. I bought them both cause I wasn't sure which would go best with the items in my closet. So I fully intend to return one, if not both.
Then I decided to call it quits and come home hoping the power would be back on--it was. So I tried to vacuum out the pool a little bit, lay in the hammock and read, then try to make the "curtains". So I was going to get enough fabric to make two, one for each door. And I may still, but the fabric was a little more see through than I had anticipated so it's just doubled up right now. So while there I was thinking the door is just a little bit taller than my 5'4" height so I'll get 6 feet or 2 yards and it will be great. If it is a little bit shorter no one will know or care. Well I hung the curtains up and they are like 2 feet short. So not the most asthetically pleasing. I may try and lower the curtain down a little so it isn't so bad. Or I may have to add to the top. So note to self: ceilings are 8 feet tall. We'll see what they hubby thinks. I alsojust safety pinned them to the top. I wasn't brave enough to whip out the sewing machine just yet. Plus if I'm going to add to it...
Finally, here's what I wore today: My New York &Company yellow shorts and my New York &Company blue, black and white geometric top with my new sandals once I bought them.
