Well I just started my last semester as a 3PD. Thankfully it's only 8 weeks. I can do anything for 8 weeks...right? Never mind the fact that we have therapy twice a day MWF and still have 6 main cases! In addition to therapy, which will be a beast in its own right, I have clinical toxicology, skills lab, and pharmacoeconomics.
I had my first tox class yesterday. It seems like it will be good. The semester focuses on pharmaceutical abuses and solutions. In addition to meeting for two hours we have two lectures to watch a week. I was thinking that was a little steep for a 2 credit class, but I don't think we'll actually meet the whole two hours every week. The professor said the tests are hard, but that there is a hearty curve and most people end up with an A or a B.
Skills lab is mostly focused on compounding. It looks like we'll either be making or learning about how to make tablets, capsules, suppositories and other things. I think I'll have a leg up in this class since I spent time in a compounding lab second year.
Lastly there is pharmacoeconomics. I have no clue what to expect from this class. Thankfully it is with the same group as last semester (the fab 5 girls!) and working with the project from last semester (DVT prophylaxis in orthopedic patients). Other than that I have no clue. We'll see, I have a feeling it will take some work, but then doesn't everything in pharmacy school?!?!
